Johor Debuts First Cross-Border Electric Bus Routes to Singapore

In a groundbreaking move for regional transportation, Johor has launched the first cross-border electric bus service to Singapore. With this move, Johor becomes the pioneer in Malaysia for implementing electric public transport and fostering a greener and more sustainable environment.

Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that these cross-border electric buses are a key component of the stateโ€™s environmental strategy. The launch of the electric bus was also marked by a significant investment in green infrastructure. According to Lim Han Weng, founder of the Handal Indah Group of Companies, the firm has invested RM80 million in electric buses and the construction of necessary charging ports. To further support the green movement, besides adding 60 buses to the transport system, Handal Indah plans to install additional charging stations throughout Johor.

To acknowledge the efforts, Handal Indah has been mentioned in the Malaysia Book of Records as the first to launch cross-border electric buses.

Currently, travelers looking to take a bus journey from Johor Bahru to Singapore have three routes to choose from:

  • Causeway Link CW3, connecting Larkin Sentral in Johor to Jurong East in Singapore
  • CW4, which also runs from Larkin Street in Johor to Jurong East
  • CW6, linking Larkin Sentral to Boon Lay in Singapore

This new electric bus service not only offers a more environmentally friendly way to travel but also serves as a symbol of Johor’s dedication to sustainable development and cross-border cooperation. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor in Johor, consider experiencing this innovative service on your next trip to Singapore.
