The Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal interiors will be upgraded to utilise the available space and provide a larger departure area. Construction is expected to start by March. SCC has stated that it will try its best to minimize passenger annoyance by gradually closing work zones. There will be no changes to the ferry services during the work and is planned to end by December 2024.

There will be additional food and beverage section, a kid’s outdoor play area, and additional lounges. The terminal’s restrooms will be renovated, and ferry operators will get new counters for check in and tickets . To increase the terminal’s efficiency, hybrid cooling systems will be added to the existing solar panels. These improved spaces and automation will increase the terminal’s capacity by 20%, enabling TMFT to accommodate over three million passengers. In 2023, over 1M travelers used TMFT to travel Tanjung Pengelih, Desaru Coast, Batam and Bintan in the Riau Islands. Further, an increasing number of people fly in or out of Changi Airport uses the ferry or bus services.
