Good news for residents in Marine Parade GRC, MacPherson SMC and Mountbatten SMC! A new free shuttle bus service will be launched on July 8th to connect you to essential amenities like MRT stations, hawker centres, and polyclinics. This is announced as part of the WeCare Programme at Marine Parade.
This initiative, touted as Singapore’s first cluster-wide community shuttle service, is a collaboration between the South East Community Development Council (CDC) and the People’s Association (PA).
The pilot program will run for one year, with weekday service from 10am to 4pm, excluding public holidays. The shuttle services will run every 45 minutes to an hour, with each bus having a capacity of ferrying up to 22 passengers at a time.
Here are some key features of the WeCare Bus Service:
Seven routes: Designed based on resident feedback, these routes will cover key areas within the three constituencies. For more details on route map, check go.gov.sg/shuttlebusmap
Six Stops : The stops along the route include – TEL Marine Terrace MRT station, the bus stop in front of Blk 34 Marine Crescent, Marine Parade Central Roundabout, Duncan Food Centre, Eunos Polyclinic, and Joo Chiat Complex.
Improved last-mile connections: The service aims to bridge the gap between public transport and frequently visited locations, especially beneficial for seniors and those with mobility limitations.
Real-time information: A dedicated app will show bus locations and waiting times. Passengers can track the location of the bus on the WeCare app
Resident priority: While the service prioritizes residents, non-residents may be allowed on board depending on space availability.
Registration for the service starts on June 30th. Residents can register through:
- Mobile app: Download the app from Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store and register for an account –
- Android Play Store: go.gov.sg/mpcplaystore
- App Store: go.gov.sg/mpcappstore
- Community centers: Visit any of the following community centers for registration assistance: Braddell Heights CC, Geylang Serai CC, Mountbatten CC, MacPherson CC, and Marine Parade CC and others . You can register and also get a physical WeCare card if you dont wish to use the app for your shuttle rides.
This new service is expected to address the needs of the area’s growing elderly population, making it easier to access essential services and potentially fostering social connections among residents.
